GoDrive serves as the designated Data Controller responsible for determining the purposes and technical means of processing your data under UAE law.
Categories of Personal Data Collected
To execute official vehicle rental agreements and fulfill statutory obligations imposed by Dubai Police and the RTA, GoDrive processes the following categories of personal data:
- Identity & Driver Verification: Full name, date of birth, nationality, passport with UAE entry/visit visa stamp, Emirates ID, UAE driving license, home country driving license, and International Driving Permit (IDP).
- Contact Channels: Mobile phone number (including WhatsApp contact), physical residential or Dubai accommodation address, and email address.
- Payment & Transaction Records: Cardholder name, transaction receipt tokens, security deposit pre-authorization records, and Tabby installment identifiers. (Raw card CVV codes are never stored).
- Vehicle Telemetry & Toll Records: Automated RTA Salik transponder passage logs and GPS territory compliance verification.
Purposes & Lawful Bases for Processing
Under Article 4 and Article 5 of UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021, personal data is processed exclusively under the following lawful bases:
- Contractual Performance: Processing required to verify driver eligibility, issue rental contracts, provide vehicle delivery, and settle deposits.
- Regulatory Compliance: Registering rental agreements within the mandatory Dubai RTA portal, verifying driver records with Dubai Police databases, and archiving transaction records for UAE Federal Tax Authority (FTA) 5% VAT audits.
- Asset Protection & Security: Preventing fraud, ensuring compliance with authorized territorial boundaries within the UAE, and reconciling toll charges.
Data Retention Periods & Statutory Storage
Personal data is retained only for the duration necessary to satisfy operational and legal requirements:
- Rental Contracts & Traffic Records: Retained for a minimum period of 5 years following contract conclusion, in accordance with UAE commercial transport regulations and tax audit mandates.
- Deposit & Fines Settlement Records: Retained for at least 90 days following deposit release to resolve any delayed municipal inquiries or banking reviews.
- General Inquiries: Retained until the customer requests deletion or opts out.

Data is shared exclusively with authorized regulatory bodies (Dubai Police, Dubai RTA), licensed payment gateways, and motor insurance underwriters solely in connection with accident claim processing.
